The Matrix is coming…in fact it’s already here

I thought in the future we might be living in the Matrix. Now I realise many have been all along. In 1999 one of the most amazing films ever (in my book) was released, ‘The Matrix’. It was written by the Wachowskis, two sisters who are trans women. That alone is probably enough to get parts of the establishment hot under the collar.

The film, the first instalment in what became a series of films (I have them all), is described by Wikipedia (https://lnkd.in/eqF5i2m3) as “a dystopian future in which humanity is unknowingly trapped inside a simulated reality, the Matrix, which intelligent machines have created to distract humans while using their bodies as an energy source”.

I’ve often said, and tweeted, ‘the Matrix is coming’. In this respect I’ve been referring to the progressive digitalisation of reality whereby society does ever more of its living and working in an online, increasingly immersive, world. Last year, Facebook (I have no love for Zuckerberg) renamed itself Meta – signalling its belief that the future of the Internet is the metaverse – in several respects, The Matrix. If you thought we were clickbait for billionaire profiteering online now, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

However, I now better appreciate that it was not the digitalised world The Matrix was really about. It was a portrayal of the faux-reality we live in. One of the most famous scenes in the film is when Morpheus invites Neo to pull back the curtain and see reality for what it really is by taking the red pill. You can watch it here: https://lnkd.in/erCyeKDF. Wikipedia neatly descibes the scene: “The terms ‘red pill’ and ‘blue pill’ refer to a choice between the willingness to learn a potentially unsettling or life-changing truth by taking the red pill or remaining in contented ignorance with the blue pill.”

In the last couple of years I have been finally escaping the Matrix that already envelops humanity. I have taken the red pill. Morpheus explains in the movie: “The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you’re inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inert, so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it.”

If you have seen the movie, watch it again and think about the climate emergency and how we need more and more people to take the red pill to expose the profiteering, controlling elites. If you haven’t and you are interested in taking a red pill now, find a copy if you can and watch it.
