Let’s scrap the sustainable travel hierarchy

Welcome to today’s edition from Paris of ‘What The Hell Is Going on?’ in which we ask… WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

We consider the scrapping of the Sustainable Travel Hierarchy – naively advocated by so-called experts – and its replacement, the Sustainable Power Hierarchy.

To any half-decent campaign manager, spin doctor or newspaper owner this makes perfect sense. Remember – don’t confuse power to the people with power over the people.

Three important pieces of evidence underpin the new hierarchy:

🚗The Ultra Low Emission Zone in London – this is no less than a plot to ban cars from UK towns and cities according to one adorable widely circulated tabloid newspaper

🚗 20 mph speed limits in Wales – a delicious 400k+ voters have signed a petition against this, against what the same adorable tabloid newspaper rightly recognised as a war on the motorist

🚗 The Cambridge Congestion Charge – not going ahead, super

This is why I have scrapped the Sustainable Transport Hierarchy to put in its place the Sustainable Power Hierarchy. Let me explain:

🗳️ At the top, the highest priority are voters you could lose

🗳️ Next down but still important of course are voters you could win

🗳️ Then we have trusty voters you’ll never lose

🗳️ Then to the low priority – voters you’ll never win

❌ And finally – as if even worth worrying about – people who don’t vote

You see – car, car, car, oil, oil, oil – you now know it makes sense!
