Predict and Provide just keeps rising from the dead, doesn’t it? Bear with me. The album ‘From Hell I Rise’ has just arrived.
A little of what you fancy does you good. Calling all my metalhead connections – this is a BIG hashtag#MetalFriday. I remember going with Robin Lyons to see Slayer for their final ‘Repentless’ tour in Manchester before they disbanded. In fact it was so good I did it twice – seeing them at Download with Florrie Lyons.
But then it was over…. One of the heaviest and most iconic metal bands from the 1980s thrash era was no more. We only had their albums and memories to live off. When it comes to Predict and Provide the 1998 Transport White Paper told us it was dead.
Now back to Slayer….
But then it became clear that founder member and godlike guitarist Kerry King was NOT done. ‘Only’ in his 50s, he has plenty more metal to give. He put together a new team and set to work. We’ve been waiting for this album for a while and this week it arrived. Today I’ve opened a beer and just ripped ‘From Hell I Rise’.
It couldn’t be a more perfectly titled album – to have no metal in my life would be purgatory. To come back with a vengeance makes the music from the Slayer metal ressurection all the more sweeter.
As the gloomy headlines abound, the dulcit tones of this wonderful album are enveloping me and happiness is coursing through my veins.
Meanwhile the revised National Networks National Policy Statement, in spite of protestations to the contrary, seems a ‘From Hell I Rise’ moment for Predict and Provide.
And what do you know, just as this Kerry King album was about to be released, Slayer have announced they will be reuniting to play three gigs in the U.S. I can forgive them. But I CAN’T forgive Status Quo. I actually broke my mum’s phone in 1984 trying to get through to book tickets to their End of The Road Tour. Maybe it’s like the end of Predict and Provide. It never really ends. According to Wikipedia they are STILL going!!! That’s 40 years later. A bit like predict and provide.
I hope you’re all finding something to make you happy on this Friday evening. Show the horns if you’re a metalhead please! π€ Don’t show the horns if you still love Predict and Provide.
From Hell I Rise (and I’m NOT talking about Predict and Provide!)
