666 parts per million of CO2. Woe to you oh earth and sea. In 1982 when I was 13 or 14 I bought ‘The Number of The Beast’ as a red vinyl single. Isn’t it beautiful? Blood red. It was my first gig when I was 13 – the Number of the Beast Tour. Front row, standing. Carbon dioxide was at 341 parts per million then, 42 years ago. It is now at 425 ppm.
😈 It occurs to me that the message from this song was, and is, prescient, prophetic. I have a new theory: that CO2 will reach 666 ppm. 🤘
Here are the opening lyrics of the song. I knew them by heart as a teenager:
Woe to you, oh earth and sea
For the Devil sends the beast with wrath
Because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast
For it is a human number
Its number is six hundred and sixty-six
Pay heed – ‘for it is a human number’. We could be the architects of our own destruction.
Perhaps you do not all know. But this song draws its lyrics almost directly from the Bible. Go to Revelations 13 – the Apocalypse of John in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. Go to verse 18: “Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.”
Worship your gods of profit and capitalism. But pay heed, for the devil may send the beast with wrath. That beast is man.
It’s just a theory though.
666 ppm – the Number of the Beast – it is a human number 🤘
