Lightening speed

With lightening speed, the new Labour Government is embracing climate action, equality-diversity-inclusion, and professionalism. The polls for the general election were only just opened a week ago.

Has anyone else found the last week breathtaking?

Here’s just a taste of week 1 of the new Government:

CLIMATE ACTION – “New UK government lifts ‘absurd’ onshore wind ban” (news headline on 9 July) and establishes its Clean Energy Transition Team

EQUALITY DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION – “Starmer’s first Cabinet ‘the most diverse on record for education background’” (news headline 7 July); “Parliament the most diverse by race and gender the country has ever seen, says Starmer, with the largest cohort of LGBT+ MPs in the world” (news headline on 9 July); we have a new Deputy Prime Minister who studied British Sign Language.

PROFESSIONALISM – “Starmer installs non-political ministers in ‘government of all the talents’” (news headline 6 July) – Sir Peter Hendy; Sir Patrick Vallance; Chris Stark – experts are back in vogue.

As I hit the ‘post’ button the polls had only been open 21 minutes this time last week. Amazing.
