Pick ‘n’ mix thoughts

This is a ‘pick ‘n’ mix’ of some of the things I’ve been reminded of and explored with bright minds over the last two days in London. They might not all take your fancy, but one or two might be really tasty.

1. Don’t let yourself get stressed over things you can’t control (which can be hard if you have a strong sense of social justice) – e.g. the egregious behaviours of certain political leaders and billionnaires.

2. Beware in leadership of not prioritising what is causing you most discomfort but be alive to what is posing most difficulty to your wider team.

3. Is there risk of a creeping lethargy in terms of climate action in the face of needing to run a marathaon of sprints?

4. There is a difference between a narcissist and a psychopath even if they present similarly.

5. Black Sabbath have announced a final gig in Birmingham in July – the last (?) chance to see Ozzy and Co. with a host of other big name bands. Will the price of tickets be in reach, will they sell out in the blink of an eye?

6. Recognising the significance of neurodivergence in society and potentially in self helps make a lot more sense of our lives and interactions, and of why so many people are misunderstood in a neurotypically-designed system.

7. The great burden of intellect + different world views + unconscious biases = a whole load of brain ache in trying to make sense of ‘what the hell is going on?’

8. Just because you would like to believe you associate with particular qualities doesn’t necessarily mean you exude those qualities in the eyes of others.

9. Democracy is a fragile thing, fascism is a scary word, the capacity to normalise in the midst of threats to the fabric of progressive society is terrifying.

10. Evidence suggests that Neanderthals were more empathetic and caring than previously thought – they may have lost out to more ‘masculine energy’ but benefitted collectively from being more ‘humane’.

Enjoy!
